Dutton Island encompasses 386 acres of marshland and barrier island preserve. It is located west of Atlantic Beach, south of Mayport, and north of Atlantic Blvd. bridge. It boarders the eastern bank of the ICW, nestled in the estuary. Dutton Island offers many activities to its visitors such as: biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. It is part of the beaches 28 mile canoe and kayak trail.

Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) offers 55,000 to 60,000 acres of coastal land which provides for long term research. The GTM Reserve is separated in the middle by the City of St. Augustine. It stretches approximately 60 miles along the Atlantic Ocean Coastline in St. John's and Flagler counties.
